CHARLES “CHIP” WINTHROP (48), a wealthy, arrogant, oblivious man-child who’s never worked a day in his life, discovers what he thinks is evidence that proves he’s the great-great-grandson of Zorro.
Meet the Characters...
ELENA VERDUGO (42), martial arts expert and former Hollywood stuntwoman whose career-ending birthday means she can't afford to say no to Chip when he asks her to be his personal trainer.
FELIX GONZALES (21) A sharp, ambitious, underprivileged Latino student who agrees to tutor Chip on “how to be Mexican” for $200,000.
When CHARLES "CHIP" WINTHROP (48), a delusional white, middle-aged trust-fund slacker clears out his dead grandmother's attic, he finds what he's certain is his destiny: a hidden chest containing a rapier, bullwhip, flintlock pistol, dagger, black eye mask, a gold ring engraved with the letter Z, and a diary.
Convinced the items prove he's the great-great-grandson of Zorro, Chip’s response is immediate and predictably offensive: he offers FELIX GONZALES (21), a sharp, ambitious, underprivileged Latino student, $200,000 to teach him "how to be Mexican." Felix needs the money, so he accepts.
Chip hires ELENA VERDUGO (42), a martial arts expert and former Hollywood stuntwoman, to teach him “how to fight Mexican.”
After a career-ending birthday, Elena can't afford to say no — even to this.
The gig is second nature for Elena, who spent her career training unqualified men to look like heroes on screen, and this particular man actually believes he is one.
Chip falls for Elena immediately, but his feelings are one-sided — especially after she discovers he's a clumsy, uncoordinated disaster while watching him shred his curtains with the rapier, cut himself with the dagger, and get tangled in the bullwhip.
Armed with the rapier, Felix's street intelligence, and Elena's hard-won instincts, Chip’s first masked caper goes spectacularly, embarrassingly wrong — and viral —which leads to a series of mishaps that pull him directly into the crosshairs of a local drug cartel and forces him to stop pretending to be a hero and start becoming one.
But, by the time the truth that his great-great-grandfather was simply the prop master on the first Zorro film is revealed, Chip has already become someone worth rooting for: a 48-year-old man who spent his life mistaking wealth for worth and finally learns the difference.
is a about what happens when someone who been given everything is finally forced to earn something, and discovers he's not as useless as everyone had assumed.
